That seemed to work. Looks like I might need to upgrade to premium to make it look better.
So the plan. We want to see the world, and we love sailing. Combine the two. Simple really. We build a catamaran and away we go. Mmmm.
If only it was that simple.
As this blog develops We’ll add in thoughts on our design choice, then we’ll progress into the boat build and ultimately this will become our travelog. Since we’re still evaluating various designs (and more on that later) I’ll start with a retrospective of our charter in the Whitsundays last year. Hopefully you’ll see why we love this so much.
Day 1, Christchurch to Hamilton Island – 13/5/15
Up at 4:30am to catch our flight, or Darlene was – I ended up working till very late finishing off things for my work so that I could get away. By the time I finished there was no point going to bed. Looking forward to one day leaving this crazy life behind!
So after nearly missing our flight because the duty free shop misplaced our booze order – couldnt go without that could we? So via Brisbane, we arrived at Hamilton Island. ‘Hammo’ to the locals. What a crazy place! We really loved it, but its like Club Med, Disneyland and Fantasy Island all rolled into one. It really is an unbelievable place. We were blown away with it, theres so much to do and we had a great time. If there was one comment to make it does seem to have a bit of an identity crisis. It really does seem to be trying to be all of the things I said above and many more.
This is the view from our hotel room, 19th floor. Breakfast out there with the sun coming up was sooo cool.
The view from the road down through the marina. Theres no cars on the island – just thousands of golf carts. And yes, they have traffic officers. This is looking accross to the golf course at Dent Island (under the roof of the cart) and to the Australian mainland in the backgound. The building on the point is the yacht club.
A close up view of the yacht club building. Designed with a nautical theme – what were they smoking!!!
We took a walk through the marina, with Darlene point out a couple of the ones she liked.
It’d been quite a day and I had a trip to Whitehaven Beach planned for us the next day. We went to bed both of us pretty excited about what the next day had in store for us.
